A dental implant is an artificial replacement of the root of your teeth. Your natural teeth are held in place and solidified by anchoring their roots in the jaw, but this interlocking can sometimes prove to be defective and must then be replaced artificially, like a knee, for example. In such a case, dental implants are recommended.
These implants are in fact tiny screws, mostly made of titanium, placed directly into the jawbone. Why titanium? Because this metal is compatible with the human body, thus reducing the risk of rejection. The dental implant therefore replaces the dental root and serves as an anchor point for prostheses or new teeth.
